Hydraulics

Hydraulics is a technical discipline applying the theoretical knowledge of fluid mechanics dealing with the mechanical behaviour of fluids both at static state as well as during their movement. Students will learn the procedures necessary to solve various problems related to the occurrence of fluids, in particular water in construction practice. These include the determination of the loads on structures from stationary and flowing water, problems associated with pressurized flow in pipes and free surface flow in flumes and channels.

In the field of research, we deal with problems related to the flow of various fluids, mostly water, but also, for example, mixtures of liquid and solid particles. This includes research of fundamental processes as well as optimization of the design of specific hydraulic structures and other water management works and various industrial applications in terms of their hydraulic functioning. In both basic and applied research we use mathematical and physical modelling tools.
